Evans Vadongo wins the Acceleration Prize for solar powered lanterns

Mikhail Gorbachev, the former USSR’s President, has marked his
80th birthday in gala style at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
The great politician, who in the West is known as "the man who
changed the world”, has picked the people who are changing the epoch.

USE SOLAR, SAVE LIVES

Among others, the Acceleration Prize, which recognizes scientists, has
been awarded to Kenyan engineer Evans Vadongo (also CNN Hero 2010)
for creating the cheap solar powered lanterns.
The lanterns,
according to SDFA Kenya's program, help to improve education
standards, reduce respiratory and eye related diseases, reduce climate
change as well as reduce poverty, in the poorest rural communities in Kenya.
