Maria
Osmarina Marina Silva Vaz de Lima is Brazilian environmentalist and politician,
the former colleague of Chico Mendes assassinated (December 22, 1988) for defending the Amazon
environment. Marina Silva has served as environmental minister in 2003-2008, in the Brazilian presidential elections 2010 she has received more than 19% of the popular
votes.
In 1996, Marina
Silva has been awarded the Goldman Environmental Prize for South & Central
America, also she is one of the Champions of the Earth 2007 (UNEP) and owner of the Sophie
Prize 2009. In 2010, along with Cécile Duflot, Monica Frassoni and Renate
Künast, Marina Silva is named by Foreign Policy magazine as one of the global
thinkers, for taking Green mainstream.
